Orange Park was founded in 1877. Initially the area was used as an orange plantation. Two years later the town was incorporated by a Special Act of the Florida Legislature in 1879. A large hotel was built along with a 1200’ wooden pier which extended well into the river to accommodate steamboats which attracted the tourist trade. Since those early days, Orange Park has grown dramatically and has developed as the northeastern gateway to Clay County.
Commerce and business have flourished, not only in the town, but in the greater Orange Park area as well. Found along the St. Johns River and Doctors Lake, Orange Park including its sister communities Fleming Island, Green Cove Springs, Middleburg and Keystone Heights, offer vast stretches of gorgeous waterfront, golf courses, all kinds of water sports activities, fishing and many other outdoor ventures. Living in the Orange Park area and utilizing surrounding amenities and attractions unearths a unique combination of leisure, recreational activities, and a relaxed Floridian lifestyle.
Orange Park belongs to Clay County and is a suburb of Jacksonville. The name "Orange Park" is additionally applied to a wider area of northern Clay County outside the town limits, covering such communities as Fleming Island, Lakeside, and Bellair. Orange Park boasts a history and riverside culture, with many golf courses, various country clubs, multiple lodging options, parks and large shopping areas. Throughout every year Orange Park hosts and sponsors several special events for all ages like the Farmers’ and Art’s Markets, 4th of July festivities, the Annual Fall Arts and Music Festival, a special visit from Santa Claus in December and many other opportunities for fun and entertainment.
